My home is in Rauenberg/ Germany. I am an aircraft turbine engineer, but for the last 21 years I have been travelling around the world.

The beginning

I’m a motorcycle enthusiast. So I started travelling on my bike between North Africa and the North cape. But soon I found out that I can’t really experience a country in just four weeks. So I wanted to start on a one year long trip. In 1986 I said Good bye to my friends and family, to my regular income and to my secure existence. This was the beginning of a four year long motorcycle ride through North- and Central America.

Getting into contact with Horses

In Guatemala I switched to horses. Crossing Guatemala on horseback I discovered travelling from a new perspective: I was fascinated by the slow way of travelling. Not only did I discover the amazing landscapes, I also caught sight of the terrific details. I could feel, comprehend and understand the country.

A new idea was born

To cross and discover the American continent on horseback. To acquire the necessary skills I was working as a guide for horseback tours in Guatemala. A critical illness forced me to go back to Germany. I had to postpone my plans. In January 1994 in the South of Patagonia I started my adventurous project: to ride across America on horseback. In 1992/93 to get physically and psychologically in shape I hiked 3.300 km through Germany accompanied by my dog Falko.

Letting others participate

For over 15 years I have been giving lectures about my travels in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. In this way I can let my listeners participate in my experiences, but also inspire them to take the courage to realize their own dreams.
